Privacy policy

When you use a Solvent calculator, everything you enter (your income, expenses, filing status, and any other figures) is processed on your own device, in your browser. It is not transmitted to Solvent, and Solvent never sees it or stores it.

The S-corp analyzer is the one exception. If you buy the full report, the five figures it needs (your net business income, owner salary, filing status, state, and business structure) are saved with your payment at Stripe, the payment processor. That lets your report open from its link on any device and lets Solvent email you that link once. They are used for nothing else. If you don't buy the report, nothing you enter leaves your browser.

Some tools, such as the invoice generator, save your work so you can come back to it. That data (your invoices, business details, and history) is stored locally in your own browser using standard browser storage, and it stays on your device. Solvent cannot access it. If you clear your browser data, it is deleted, which is why a CSV export is offered so you can keep your own copy.

If you send a message through the contact form on the About page, it's processed by Formspree, which delivers it by email. Formspree has its own privacy policy governing what it collects when you submit a form. Your message and email address are used only to reply to you, and you're never added to any list or sold to.

Solvent uses Google Analytics 4 to see how visitors use the site, which pages get the most use, and where the site can improve. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as your device type, browser, approximate location, and the pages you visit. That information is processed by Google under its own privacy policy, and Solvent uses it only in aggregate to improve the site, never to identify you personally. Google Analytics does not receive anything you type into a calculator; your calculator inputs stay in your browser and are never transmitted anywhere.

If your device is set to a UK or European Economic Area time zone, analytics stays off until you choose Accept in the banner at the bottom of the page. Everywhere else it is on by default. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal and you haven't made a choice in that banner, analytics stays off without you doing anything.

Solvent has no on-site switch for analytics. To opt out, use your browser instead. Turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser's settings if it offers it, use a browser extension that blocks trackers, or install Google's opt-out browser add-on, which stops Google Analytics from collecting data on every site you visit.

If you chose Accept or Reject in the banner, that choice is saved in your browser. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings removes it, and the banner shows again on your next visit.

To be exact about the boundary: the values you type into a calculator are never included in an analytics event, in any form, including rounded, bucketed or as a range. Solvent records that a calculation happened. It never records what the calculation said.

Solvent uses cookies set by Google Analytics to measure site usage, for example to tell whether you're a new or returning visitor. These are analytics cookies, not advertising cookies. You can block or delete them in your browser settings, and the calculators keep working normally either way.

Some pages link to third-party products, and Solvent may earn a commission if you sign up through them. Those third parties have their own privacy policies governing what they collect once you leave Solvent. Clicking an affiliate link does not share your calculator inputs or any personal data with them.

Solvent is intended for adults managing their own taxes and is not directed to children under 13. Solvent does not knowingly collect information from children.

This policy may be updated as the site grows. The "last updated" date above changes when it does.
